María Velásquez, an early childhood education (ECE) expert, brings extensive experience in English/Spanish bilingual professional development and technical assistance. She has expertise in designing effective quality management systems, subcontracting, and cultivating strong and effective collaborations across early childhood programs and agencies.

As a training and technical assistance associate for EDC’s Rhode Island Center for Early Learning Professionals, Velásquez advances efforts to increase the quality of ECE programs statewide. Previously, as a Rhode Island programming services officer/contract manager, she served as the state’s liaison to EDC on the Race to the Top – Early Learning Challenge contract of $17.5M.

For nine years, Velásquez was the director of education services for WSBE-RI PBS, where she introduced video-streamed technology and online curriculum in Rhode Island classrooms. She also participated in the development of the National Digital Library funded by PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Velásquez holds a BS in Psychology from Rhode Island College, an MA in Adult Education from the University of Rhode Island, and an EdD in Educational Leadership for Higher Education from Johnson & Wales University.
