Amy Brodesky

Amy Brodesky is a mathematics instructional design expert and professional development (PD) specialist. She has extensive experience in elementary and middle grades mathematics education, strategies to improve learning outcomes for students with mathematics difficulties and disabilities, and effective intervention practices.

As part of her work for the REL-Northeast & Islands at EDC, Amy led the development of a Mathematics Intervention Toolkit which provides free, high-quality resources to help elementary educators implement the recommendations of the What Works Clearinghouse Practice Guide, Assisting Students Struggling with Mathematics. The toolkit includes six professional learning modules, videos of intervention classes, ready-to-use instructional routines, participant workbooks, and facilitator guides.

Amy led the first national study on teachers’ and schools’ approaches and challenges related to mathematics intervention. Drawing on the findings, she co-created a PD course for intervention teachers and co-authored an EDC guide for school and district leaders, Strengthening Math Intervention at the Middle Grades. Previously, she was the study leader and co-author of the report Math Education Practices for Students with Disabilities and Other Struggling Learners.

Amy has created numerous online and hybrid PD courses, including the Foundations for Inclusive Practice courses, which have been completed by over 13,000 educators and administrators in Massachusetts. For EDC’s Data Paths project, she has co-developed PD workshops, instructional routines, and resources to help teachers build students’ data literacy skills (Grades 3-8).

Amy has an EdM from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
