Sommer Albert is a prevention specialist, community builder, youth educator, and trauma-informed facilitator with extensive experience supporting suicide prevention education, training, and implementation in clinical, K–12, and higher education settings. She is passionate about community-based approaches to mental health promotion and recovery, particularly those that integrate creative practices such as collage, digital storytelling, and poetry. Across her work, Sommer is committed to helping communities build the resources, relationships, and infrastructure they need to sustain meaningful prevention efforts.

As a member of EDC’s Suicide Prevention Resource Center team, Sommer provides training and technical assistance to states and other key partners on strengthening suicide prevention infrastructure. She also develops virtual learning opportunities and practical training tools to support the suicide prevention workforce.

Through EDC Solutions Education & Wellbeing services, Sommer supports school districts and youth-serving organizations in implementing EDC’s Multi-Tiered Suicide Prevention for Schools framework. In this role, she helps partners build comprehensive, responsive suicide prevention processes that reflect the needs, strengths, and contexts of the young people they serve. Before joining EDC, Sommer worked extensively in undergraduate and graduate school admissions, including at the University of Washington School of Social Work.

Sommer holds an MSW in Community-Centered Integrative Practice from the University of Washington and a BA in Health and Psychology from the University of Michigan.
