Challenge
Today’s students are facing a world that presents both great scientific and technological challenges and great opportunity to address them. It is increasingly important for our students to develop the scientific literacy and computational thinking skills that will prepare them for productive futures.
EDC is taking a leadership role in creating elementary curriculum resources that integrate computational thinking with core STEM disciplines. In Insights + C, we are updating several units of EDC’s previously developed Insights curriculum, with a focus on science practices related to computational thinking, using models and simulations, and working with data.
Key Activities
Project staff are undertaking the following activities:
- Collaborating with participating teachers to design, test, and refine modules that align with the Next Generation Science Standards
- Exploring the use of digital simulations for promoting students’ understanding of science concepts
- Developing multimedia teacher instructional resources designed to support self-study by teachers nationwide
