Out-of-school-time (OST) programs do much more than just offer families a bridge between school and home, says EDC’s Katari Coleman. They can also provide valuable learning opportunities.

“It’s essential that working families have a safe place for their children to go after school, where their development can still be encouraged in a positive manner,” Coleman says.

In this video, Coleman discusses how OST programs support community development. She also describes her work to develop toolkits that help states create effective OST programs.
