Siobhan Murphy Named CEO of Education Development Center
Education Development Center’s Board of Trustees has named Siobhan Murphy as Chief Executive Officer of the global nonprofit.
“After an extensive search, the EDC Board of Trustees unanimously selected Siobhan to lead our organization. An experienced leader, with more than 25 years at EDC, Siobhan brings the wisdom, expertise and strategic savvy needed to lead EDC’s next chapter,” said Ciara Burnham, Chair of the EDC Board of Trustees. “This is a moment of extreme volatility in the world, which calls for managing complexity, and innovative and collaborative ways of working. Siobhan is the right leader to guide EDC’s work and cross-sector partnerships.”
Murphy’s selection is the outcome of an extensive international search led by a Search Committee of the Board of Trustees and assisted by Heidrick & Struggles. With Siobhan at the helm, EDC remains a powerful force for change that is ready to meet the challenges of today and shape the solutions of tomorrow.

Murphy excels at advancing EDC’s unique capabilities championing people and systems change across education, economic development and health sectors. And in this time of rapid change, she has the trust and confidence of the EDC board and staff to lead the organizational change required to meet the challenges.
Since joining EDC in 1998, Murphy, as Chief Operating Officer, has led organizational efforts spanning programmatic strategy and business development, enterprise systems, knowledge management, technology, and human resources – all with the focus on improving the quality of work and work experience for staff. She also has extensive expertise in public health, specializing in the effective programmatic and fiscal management of complex contracts and projects. Previously, she served as Corporate Secretary to EDC’s Board of Trustees and deputy director of EDC’s Health division, providing oversight and leadership for 150 staff engaged in delivering groundbreaking health, behavioral health, and safety initiatives.
