Challenge
An estimated 6% of all people in the United States and 7% of veterans will suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) at some point in their lives. Deployment increases the risk of PTSD for veterans, with some studies showing that PTSD rates are three times higher among veterans who were deployed.
EDC was selected by the National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder at the Veterans Administration to redesign, build, and maintain a tool to assist U.S. military veterans with PTSD. EDC worked closely with our partner Urban Emu to produce PTSD Treatment Decision Aid, a tool that is now available and helping people with PTSD, their families, and healthcare providers learn about effective PTSD treatment options.
Key Activities
In revising and redesigning the PTSD Treatment Decision Aid, EDC and Urban Emu are:
- Applying an evidence-informed framework for the development of patient decision aids
- Using human-centered design principles
- Conducting user testing with veterans
- Updating the app to be used on mobile devices
- Adding and updating videos, resources, and other features
Our Impact
- In 2022 alone, 214,482 people used the current version of PTSD Treatment Decision Aid.
