Adam Swanson is an EDC Project Director and expert in mental health promotion and suicide prevention. He brings deep subject matter expertise in behavioral health policy and practice, suicidology, first-episode psychosis, social determinants of health, and effective upstream suicide prevention. A highly experienced training and technical assistance specialist, he successfully translates research into practice through in-person and virtual training, learning communities, interest-holder engagement, intensive consultation, and resource development.

As the Senior Technical Assistance and State Partnerships Advisor to state and territorial health systems for the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, Adam provides guidance on infrastructure development, leadership coaching, and strategic planning support. He sustains strong collaborative relationships with leaders from state agencies, U.S. territories, and other public health systems.

Adam is a frequent speaker at the national convenings of organizations such as the American Association of Suicidology and the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention. Recently, he co-authored the report, “Addressing the Intersection of Suicide, Overdose, and Adverse Childhood Experiences.”

Previously, Adam worked at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, Mental Health America, and the United States Senate. Beyond EDC, he is a noted published author, Pushcart Prize nominee, and is the inaugural literary arts fellow at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology.

Adam holds a Master of Public Policy from George Mason University, a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Emerson College, and a graduate certificate from The George Washington University.
