Alemayehu Bekele, senior research associate, has over 10 years of experience in designing and conducting culturally responsive, rigorous, and equity-centered evaluations. His expertise helps inform programs and strengthen investments in education. His methodological approach includes designing surveys, conducting interviews, and leading workshops with diverse stakeholders for funders such as the Sherwood Foundation, Museum of Science, and Nellie Mae Foundation. He is a certified reviewer for the What Works Clearinghouse.
Bekele co-leads the implementation evaluation of the EIR Circle Up – Integrating Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning Program and is lead evaluator for SPTAC Regions 1 and II. He also leads a quantitative evaluation of the Peter Kiewit Foundation Engineering Academy.
Previously, Bekele provided technical assistance to the NSF INCLUDES National Network, evaluated the Minnesota Humanities Center Program at Omaha Public Schools, and designed the Out of School Needs and Experiences Fund evaluation plan. Before joining EDC, Bekele worked at the International Institute of Education and Radboud University.
Bekele holds a PhD in Social Sciences from Radboud University and an MA in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University.
