Kate Coleman, an EDC project director, brings over 20 years of experience in mathematics education. She specializes in designing innovative curricula, assessments, and professional learning that promote engaging and rigorous mathematical and computer science experiences for all students. A former mathematics coach and classroom teacher, she has expertise in school improvement, instructional design, and curriculum implementation and integration, with a particular focus on English learners/multilingual learners and students who may experience difficulties in mathematics.

Kate co-leads the Connecticut Partnership to Support Multilingual Learner Outcomes for the REL-Northeast & Islands at EDC, is a coach for EDC’s Math for All professional learning program, and supports rural educators in increasing students’ access to computer science (CS) in STEM Workforce Ready 2030. As the project director of a National Science Foundation-funded project, she co-develops online programming modules and teacher resources focused on helping children learn critical CS concepts and building their mathematics proficiency.

Kate co-authored the Mathematics Intervention Toolkit, a free, high-quality professional learning resource that supports educators, mathematics coaches, and leaders use recommendations from a What Works Clearinghouse Practice Guide to promote students’ successful mathematics learning. She serves as a board member of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in Massachusetts.

Kate holds an EdM in Learning and Teaching from Harvard Graduate School of Education and a BA from Boston College.
