Mary Cummings
Mary D. Cummings is the deputy country director for the Leaders in Teaching (LIT) project at EDC in Liberia. She brings over two decades of experience in education leadership, youth development, and capacity building. Her expertise spans secondary education, school leadership, and gender-based violence prevention, with a strong focus on strategic program management and stakeholder engagement.
At EDC, Cummings provides technical direction and strategic oversight for the LIT project, supporting Liberia’s Ministry of Education and implementing partners to strengthen school leadership and improve secondary education outcomes. She leads coordination across program, finance, and operations teams and ensures quality delivery aligned with donor expectations.
Cummings previously held leadership roles with USAID-funded projects, including Youth Advance and Accelerated Quality Education. Before joining EDC, she served as a teacher trainer with Concern Worldwide and was a principal at Liberia Renaissance Education Complex. She co-authored a paper in the Liberia Development Conference Anthology.
Cummings holds an MA in Christian Education, a BA in Education, and a certificate in gender-based violence prevention.
