Sam Awuku
Sam Awuku is the head of country engagement for the Education Workforce Initiative, led by the Learning Generation Initiative (LGI), with over 30 years of experience in education and development across Sub-Saharan Africa, the UK, and Poland. He previously led the Education Commission’s Innovative Pedagogies Project.
Since 2015, Sam has advised Ghana’s Ministry of Education on curriculum, policy, school improvement, technology integration, leadership, and partnerships. He previously served as Global Director for the Centre Development and Public Engagement at AIMS-NEI Foundation, where he led the establishment of AIMS centers in Tanzania and Rwanda. He also co-founded TeachAid Consulting Ltd., supporting organizations including Education Development Trust, VVOB, Chemonics, RTI International, ImpactEd International, and ADEA.
Sam has held several governance roles, including Board President of the Ghana Society for Education Technology and government nominee to the councils of the University of Cape Coast and Ghana Communication Technology University. He is a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching, UK, member of the Institute of Directors, UK, chartered mathematics teacher, government appointee on the West Africa Examination Council Board, and Co-Chair of the Accra Metropolitan University Council.
Sam holds a PhD in Education Technology and Development Policy, as well as a Teachers’ Certificate in Mathematics, BA in Social Science, MA in Inclusive Education, MBA in Leadership and Management, MA in Education Programme, and LLM in International Law.
