Join EDC at AERA

This April 23 to 27, EDC researchers and evaluators will present new findings focused on effective strategies to propel students’ learning and prepare them to succeed in the workforce at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado.
Wednesday, April 23 (9–10:30 a.m. MT): In a symposium chaired by Hai Lun Tan, evaluators Naomi Hupert, Meg Caven, Jessica Brett, and Joy Kennedy will share insights drawn from EDC’s studies of the influence of digital media and curricula on student achievement and career readiness. Titled “Evaluating Student Learning Through Innovative Digital Curricula,” this interactive session will include panel presentations and a town hall discussion on the value and challenges of digital curricula.
The following papers will be presented:
• Ready to Learn: Study of a Computational Thinking Resource for Prekindergarten-aged Children by Naomi Hupert
• Developing College and Career Awareness in High-Poverty Elementary Schools Using Game-Based Curricula by Meg Caven
• In SRVCE of Civic Engagement by Jessica Brett
• U.S. History Through Young People’s Eyes: A Randomized Controlled Trial of Mission US: Joy Kennedy
Wednesday, April 23 (10:50 a.m.–12:20 p.m. MT): During the symposium “Co-Design as a Means of Creating Effective Technology-Enhanced Learning Experiences,” Wendy Martin, Ariana Riccio Arista, and Meagan Henry will present two papers. The papers focus on co-developing innovative and impactful programs that improve STEM learning and career readiness for neurodivergent youth, including a mentorship program and work to improve engagement in engineering design activities in museums.
Saturday, April 26 (8–9:30 a.m. MT): During a roundtable session, Ariana Riccio Arista, Meagan Henry, and Wendy Martin will share how evaluation data have guided the continuous improvement of an internship program that helps autistic students learn STEM research skills. Titled “Incorporating Neurodiverse Voices: Providing Autistic Youth with Pathways to STEM Careers with Continuous Program Evaluation,” the discussion is part of a larger presentation focused on career readiness.
