Exploring Implementation of Play-Based Learning in New Hampshire’s Kindergarten Classrooms

This report is based on a descriptive study conducted as part of our work in the Institute of Education Sciences-funded Regional Educational Laboratory Northeast & Islands. Our partners in New Hampshire requested that we carry out a study related to 2018 legislation the state passed to ensure kindergarten teachers integrate effective play-based learning into their instruction. New Hampshire education leaders needed to understand kindergarten teachers’ play-based learning knowledge, use of play-based learning, challenges in using play-based learning, available professional learning to support them in using play-based learning, and more.  This report presents findings from our study and related recommendations for state education leaders in New Hampshire and leaders who are interested in play-based learning across the U.S.
