Challenge
Home visiting is a vital service that reaches 139,000 parents and children annually in the United States. But the impact of these maternal and child health (MCH) programs is limited by a number of challenges, including few opportunities for peer learning, high staff turnover, and fragmented systems of care.
Through this project, EDC and the Association of State and Tribal Home Visiting Initiatives (ASTHVI), in collaboration with Title V and Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB)-funded capacity-building partners, are improving leadership development, fostering peer support, disseminating evidence-based practices, and promoting cross-system coordination among home visiting programs. By serving state and territory Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting program leaders who oversee the implementation of home visiting services for families nationwide, the Partnership will enhance the professionalization of a critical and dedicated early health workforce.
Key Activities
The project is carrying out the following activities:
- Collaborate with ASTHVI and MCHB-funded partners (including Title V, urban MCH and Healthy Start programs) to identify and align areas of common need, interest, and effort to strengthen coordination at the state and local levels.
- Develop strategies to disseminate information on current and emerging MCH- related public health issues. This includes creating the MIECHV Peer Connection Hub for tools and resources.
- Offer opportunities for peer learning and support, which will include communities of practice and opportunities for peer-to-peer learning among Title V, Urban MCH, and Healthy Start partners.
- Strengthen the development of a highly skilled MCH current and emergent leadership workforce.
Impact
- The Partnership will support the professional development and learning of 64–120 current and emerging leaders in the field of home visiting.
- By working closely with ASTHVI, the project will strengthen ASTHVI’s ability to connect with other maternal and child health associations. This collaboration will build a robust system of support for MIECHV leaders nationwide, ensuring more coordinated, sustainable, and impactful leadership across the home visiting field.
