U.S. Ambassador Erica Barks-Ruggles and Rwanda Minister of Education Silas Lwakabamba recently visited a school in Kigali that is one of more than 2,400 public/government-aided schools participating in EDC’s USAID-funded Literacy, Language, and Learning (L3) Initiative. The visitors heard an L3 audio lesson and toured the studio where lessons are recorded. Following the tour, Barks-Ruggles recorded a story for a grade 4 lesson.
L3 helps Rwanda’s Ministry of Education develop and implement new national standards for literacy (in both English and the local language Kinyarwanda) and numeracy. The initiative aims to improve the reading and mathematics skills for students in grades 1 to 4.
