This paper presents EDC’s findings from the case studies of three National Science Foundation-funded STEM projects involving successful youth co-design team activities.

Key Findings

  • The most appealing and engaging activities for youth are effective and accurate data collection and product creation tools.
  • The use of media as a leverage to engage youth in STEM can be highly effective.
  • Providing opportunities for youth to learn more about STEM, STEM topics, and STEM careers is as important as helping them to see themselves in new roles (e.g., researcher, Web designer).
