Lukas Winfield is an experienced mixed-methods researcher and evaluator of STEM education. His research focuses on how education materials reinforce science-related stereotypes and function as barriers to underrepresented groups.
Winfield leads research with Cape Cod Community College that seeks to deepen understanding of effective wraparound support for students from low-income households pursuing STEM-related careers. He leads the implementation evaluation for a study on the impact of work-based learning on students’ interest and learning in computer science. He is also advancing a national study on identifying features of teacher preparation programs that influence the persistence of science and math teachers in teaching in low-resourced schools.
Winfield has co-authored works on the impact of science fairs, family involvement in science fairs, and a state-federal STEM summit. Before joining EDC, he managed programs focused on human rights, teacher training, and multilingual-based education across Southeast and Central Asia.
Winfield holds an MA in International Education and Development from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he is currently completing his Doctorate in Educational Research, Policy, and Administration.
