Makoto Hanita, a highly experienced researcher and methodologist, specializes in health and education research. He provides methodological leadership for randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental studies, observational investigations, and retrospective analyses of data.
Hanita is the lead methodologist for REL Northeast & Islands at EDC. In this capacity, he works closely with the director to provide expert guidance on methodologically challenging studies. He also serves as the principal investigator on two studies: Analyzing Teacher Mobility and Retention and Connecticut Teacher Education and Mentoring Program: Fidelity of Implementation and Teacher Outcomes.
Currently, Hanita divides his time between Boston, Massachusetts, and Aracaju, Brazil, where he holds an appointment as a visiting professor of education at Universidade Tiradentes. Before joining EDC in 2016, he was a senior research methodologist for Education Northwest, where he led the design and data analysis of four large-scale experimental studies funded by the Institute of Education Sciences.
Hanita holds a BS in Business Administration from Keio University in Tokyo, Japan, and a PhD in Social Psychology from Indiana University. He speaks Japanese, English, and Portuguese.
