Heidi Kar, principal advisor for Mental Health, Trauma, & Violence Initiatives at EDC, is a featured speaker at the Washington Post live event “The State of Youth Mental Health.” Kar will speak alongside U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy and UNICEF Senior Mental Health Technical Advisor Zeinab Hijazi.
This free online event will be held on August 17 at 3:30 p.m. EDT/8:30 p.m. BST. It will focus on how young people are navigating the mental health crisis and how schools, families, and communities can be supportive.
The state of young people’s mental health has been an ongoing concern, both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory on the topic, stating in part, “the future wellbeing of our country depends on how we support and invest in the next generation.”
Kar’s remarks will focus on comprehensive, inclusive, and community-oriented solutions that are crucial to addressing the youth mental health crisis in the United States and around the world.
